A Wedding and Design Wall Monday

Not a lot of sewing going on around here this week. I do have good reason though. On Saturday we had a housewarming and over the course of the day about 100 of our family and friends visited. What only a few knew that it was also my wedding day.

A good friend married us and she asked just before the ceremony if she had to wear shoes. I said of course not as long as I didn't have to either. It was a very relaxed day and we both had a ball. It has rained here in Sydney for over a week but we didn't get one drop even though it was forecast and apparently rained all around us. Sometimes you get lucky.

Some progress on my It Just Takes Two blocks.

I love the Churn dash made in this size. I think I may play with this block some more when time permits. I'm thinking scrappy with reproductions.


Needed to go back  to square 1 on my square in a square block - no pun intended. I am never miserly with fabric but cut smaller than the pattern recommendations for this block. Of course it came out too small. Don't know why I did it.

I have also started piecing the components on the next block which finishes at 12".

I finished piecing a Grandmothers Flower block. The centre is not working for me so I will replace it later on.

Finally a little progress on the Fruit Loop quilt.

Classes start back this week. looking forward to catching up with friends and perhaps a new project or two.

Design Wall Monday

I have been playing with all sorts of different projects this week.

First up minuscule progress on It Takes Two blocks.

Next back to an oldie - Tessellations. All of the components together ready for final stitching. This is block 13 of 16 and a project I want to make significant progress on this year.

I've almost finished the centre piecing on Mrs Billings. We won't talk about the fact that I received month nine in the post today will we.

And finally three days of classes in the Blue Mountains last week saw the start of two new projects.

First up clamshells.

Second quilt is a band sampler and here is one of my hexagons prepped.

Small wonder finishes are  rare.

Design Wall Monday

No design wall yet but I have being doing bits and pieces.

First up the It Takes Two Blocks -

This one just needs to be stitched down:

Block 2 is started and yes my ironing board cover needs replacing.

Finally I have started a quilt for one of Laurie's granddaughters. Inspiration here but my blocks will be 6" finished.

Cheddar Bow-Tie Linkup

Last July Bonnie of Quiltville found a gorgeous antique bow-tie top and shared it on her site. It was to be her leader ender project for the next 12 months and she wondered how many she would get done in a year. The minute I saw the inspiration quilt I was in love but was in the throes of moving and put it in the memory banks. When I finally found time to sew in November I cut a whole heap of pieces to be my leader ender project. So how many have I made?

That's right one. I have been doing more sewing than this total would suggest but have white cotton in my machine. I am piecing these with grey thread so they are on the back burner till I get back to a major project that uses grey thread. Is it just me that has a thing about thread colour?

Design Wall Monday

Wow. It's been a long time since I posted. The move went well and we are settling in nicely. Combining two households worth of stuff was never going to be easy and we are slowly culling down.

We lost our beloved Charlie to cancer a week after we moved. We miss him terribly but he made it here so will always be a part of this house.

Molly dog was fretting having left her beloved Clive from next door so Honey came to live with us. She is 5 and she is settling in well with a few little hiccups along the way.

Don't have a design wall yet but it will be come. So what am I showing today - a finished quilt. I started this at least three years ago and put the final stitches in the binding in the early hours of 1/1/12. Nice to have a finish. Sorry about the poor picture. I must try to get a better one before it goes to it's new home.

It also has my first ever pieced back. Not very adventurous but something I want to explore.
