Parcels in the mail

Aneela asked for pictures of parcels in the post that made us happy. I received this parcel yesterday that I had bought from Sarah and it certainly made me happy.

My week and the stash

I have been trying to think of the perfect photo for this post. Laurie had wanted me to take a photo of his wound while we were in the emergency department on Monday morning. What's that about the emergency department I hear you ask. Well here's the story.

Monday morning just before 7:30 am I received a panicked phone call from Laurie. He had fallen and blood was gushing from his head and his son was taking him to the hospital. For those who know Laurie he doesn't panic lightly so to say I was concerned is an understatement. However being the ever practical person I am, I figured we were likely to be there for hours so I should shower before calling a taxi to take me to the hospital. This I did and called a cab and arrived at emergency about 8:00am to be met by Laurie in the waiting area covered in blood with a big bandage on his head.

Turns out he had slipped on the stairs hit his head on the brickwork and then fallen into the garden. The first fall resulted in the gash to his head. The second fall gave him two gashes on his leg and a torn shoulder. The triage nurse has stopped the flow of blood so he was feeling much better. Fast forward several hours and we are still waiting to see a doctor. Laurie keeps threatening to leave and I manage to convince him to stay.

Called in to see the Doctor about 10:15am and I have to say given the horror stories about our hospitals I didn't think that was too bad. The doctor welcomed Laurie to his new home as he said we were likely to be there about 6 hours. Why so long I hear you ask. Well if you're 75 and suffer a head trauma a CT scan is required.

While that was being organised the Doctor stitched up his head with 15 lovely stitches. The picture below is the only one I was willing to publish. He also received a tetanus shot. Fortunately we didn't have to stay for the CT scan as we convinced the staff that we would have one done privately and they were OK with that. The good news is the scan was clear.

In the midst of all this drama the Aged care coordinator arrived to interview the old man who had fallen at home. Laurie as you can imagine was none to pleased with this - he doesn't think he is old - and started to play up. I almost had to give him another head injury to make him behave.

It's easy to laugh about now but it was a traumatic day. Lisa you will be pleased to know I did have a day off work. However I'm still sick as a dog.



To the stash. In an alarming trend I have noticed if I don't sew I buy. So I better get some sewing done this week.

Roses

I have had a horrible week. I have lost my voice - again - and while that it is not normally too much of a problem this time unusually I am sick as well. Yesterday I went into the city for a training course and managed to fall over. I have a lump the size of an orange on my knee.

I was feeling terribly sorry for myself and these arrived from one of my former staff. No other reason than she had been thinking about me and thought I would enjoy them. Put a smile on my face for the first time all week.

The Stash

Not much sewing go on around here at the moment. Still working 10 to 12 hour days. To add to that I lost my voice 11 days ago. Usually not a problem but this time I am sick with it. If I am true to form I can expect another fortnight without the voice.

I have started playing with some of my scraps. This may become a scrappy trip around the world. Then again it may not.

An Exhibition

Had a lovely evening yesterday at the opening of my friends Nic and Janine's exhibition. Details here.

Ripple crochet and the stash

Not much sewing going on here at the moment. I am working 10 to 12 hour days and when I get home at night I'm exhausted. Crochet has proved to be the answer at the end of the day. It requires no thought and grows quickly.



I have however nipped in the bud (I hope) the start of another collection - this time of wool. I have one of those grocery bags to store wool in and publicly declare my stash will always fit in it. That's the plan for now anyway.
