Hexagons and the stash

I might have figured out why the stash is growing so rapidly with hardly any fabric being used.


Half inch hexagons don't use much fabric.

The quilt show and the stash

One of the highlights of this years show for me was my friend Pennie Darlings win in the miniature section. The hexagons are 3/16 " finished. Here's a picture for you to enjoy published with Pennie's permission.




My major acquisitions from the show came from AK Traditions. I first read about them here. I bought a kit for a knitted doll that may take a while to complete. I also needed a box to store my WIP in progress - didn't I. I have fallen in love with their wool so some of that came home as well. More colours to follow.





So to the stash. The purchases as predicted were large but most from quilt stores not the show.

What's on your design wall.

One of my purchases at the quilt show last week was a free standing design wall. While not perfect it is better than the floor or the bed. Judy started a couple of weeks ago design wall Monday. Now I can play along. For regular readers you will totally understand when I say it won't be every Monday but from time to time proof will be shown that I actually use some of the fabric I buy.

So what's there this week. A fun little quilt for a new baby due in a couple of weeks. I was going to make it smaller but it just grew. What you can see is all the completed blocks ready to be sewn together. This is the third layout as the cats love the new design wall and especially like everything falling.



I hope to have it all sewn together by Wednesday and will then force myself to go shopping for some border fabric.

The quilt show made me do it.

The first purchase I made on Thursday at the show was this fantastic new book by Melly and me.




I have fallen in love with one of the embroideries and so a quick trip to a quilt store was in order to buy some background.




I did buy that but some other fabric came home as well.




Cleo thought they were lovely and is asleep on them right now. She did stay off long enough for a photo.

The quilt show, dinner and a new BOM

Had a lovely day at the quilt show yesterday. Did some shopping, saw lots of friends and had a lovely yum cha lunch.

I didn't really look at the quilts - will do that Sunday. This is a link to all the prizewinners.

Straight after the show Thai dinner in Newtown with friends. Jenny from Amite joined us and it was wonderful to get the chance to know her better. Whenever I am in Melbourne her store is a must visit.I only get down a couple of times a year but am always welcomed like I'm a regular.

In the mailbox this morning was my first package in Jenny's new BOM. I won't replicate it exactly - I like to give it my own feel. I'm really looking forward to see how this one progresses over the year.

Wednesday = Stash report

It's bitterly cold day here in Sydney. Winter has arrived with a vengeance. Looking forward to keeping warm tomorrow at the quilt show.

Some sewing has been happening but unfortunately most of what I have used has been counted in previous weeks. My friend Lisa has noticed an alarming trend - most weeks I only manage to use a 1/4 of a yard. Sadly that trend continues this week.

Before the report some proof that I have been sewing. The latest tessellation block is finished.

Quilt show week

The photos below will attest to the fact that I will probably buy fabric in large quantities this week. The sad thing is Quilt Show hasn't even started. I went to my local shop on Saturday to buy I can't remember what and this is what came home with me.




I'm loving this Anna Griffin. Destined to be a border sometime.....

A wedding and the Stash

One of my staff was married last week and had the reception on Saturday night. It was a joyous occasion. The best bit was to see Sam relax and enjoy herself. Apparently planning a reception for 325 guests is not relaxing. LOL
