It's a disappearing nine patch and I don't think the transition from the centre to the next round of blocks works as well as I would have liked. Still it's done.
I struggled with the fabrics - not my style at all. But like all good challenges I learned some things.
Firstly I don't like sewing with batiks. Their texture does not do it for me. I will be interested to see what they are like after quilting and a wash.
Secondly I used steam for pressing. I don't know why I haven't done it before but think I will be a convert. Seams sit very nicely.
Third and final thing. To reduce the stash do a cull when you have finished and get rid of what you will never use again. For me that was everything left. One of my friends loves batiks so she can have first choice and then anything left will go to charity.
Pop over here to see what the rest of the group came up with and here to see what others have on their design wall today.
BTW I moved my design wall to the great outdoors this weekend to try to get better picture.

It's a very pretty quilt! I hope you plan to machine quilt it; otherwise, batik is rough to handquilt.
It reminds me of a flooring we had years ago. I like that. I really haven't ever used batiks. I guess there is something in my future I will do.
That was fun to see the starting fabric and your quilt...and then to see them all. What a lot of talent in your group!
I really like how you made 3 different colourways of the D9P and your layout was great! And I enjoyed reading about what you learned, because, as you said, that is what a challenge is all about!
Isn't it interesting that what one person doesn't like, another loves. I recently did my first, and then second, batik quilt and loved it. I had been collecting batiks because I loved the colors and then when I saw how they went together I had to do it again. I really like your quilt and the way the center is different from the outer rows.
I think it turned out beautifully! Of course, I am a batik lover.
Very pretty. I used batiks to make a NY Beauty quilt for my daughter. Very difficult to work with curves. I use steam all the time!
You did a great job - will you keep this one, or is it a gift?
Congrats on getting it done particularly when the fabrics are outside your comfort zone...I rarely use purple and yet many LOVE it!
It makes me think of a beautiful refreshing cool pond on a hot day.
Get it quilted soon. Carmel
Love it Brenda and Im with you re batiks - hard to sew and even harder to unsew as it leaves holes.
