Design Wall Monday

Last Wednesday and Thursday I did a class with Sue Ross at Quiltsmith. It was paper piecing which I wasn't a huge fan of before the class and still I'm not but for this quilt it is the way to go.

Here's a snippet of Sue's quilt posted with her permission.

Here's my progress at the end of day one

the end of day two

and over the weekend.

The rings aren't sewn together yet and shock horror I may even try sewing them in on the machine. Then again I may not.

I've discovered my Bernina likes paper more than my Janome so will use it for this project.

I'm not sure if this block will make the final cut - it was good to have a practice first I think.

BTW for the Sydney siders Melinda has installed blinds in the classroom and it has made a world of difference. It was much cooler in the classroom than the outside temperature.

I have not given paper piecing a try. I think that is one thing I would like to have a live teacher for. I can't wait to see your finished block. It looks very tedious.

OMgosh your block is beautiful! Way to go with paper-piecing! Isn't it amazing how one machine with work better for certain kinds of sewing. I have 2 pfaff's. But I really like the older one for curved piecing and blanket-stitch.

Great work on your block. I have that one on my list of to-dos. Purchased a book about a two years ago and just havent gotten started. It's so much fun looking at design walls and seeing projects I want to make. Keep going as your blocks are beautiful.

Oh Brenda...I LOVE it! Love the design and the fabrics you've chosen. I really like paper piecing, especially projects like this. Let us know how it goes sewing the rings together.

That will really be a beautiful quilt when you're finished. I'm not a big fan of paper piecing, either, but you're right, there are times when it's just called for. I don't think you should call your first block a sample. It looks good enough to me!

Wow, a beautiful block. In a beautiful quilt. I've seen the same pattern in all polka dots and it looked fabulous too. So this has to go in my list of wanna do's!
