Photo a Day - A smile

While not the best photo of her this picture brings a smile to my face every time I see it. It is my niece Megan and was taken the first night I saw her in many years. It's her birthday tomorrow and I will get to celebrate with her on Saturday. Can't wait.

A cake a week

During the week I made the butter cake again and apparently it was so good someone thought it was store bought. Buoyed by my success I decided to tackle this cake.

A couple of things made me go in this direction. I had oranges and the cake tin I had bought was the right size.

A little shopping had happened during the week and I now have gorgeous food prep bowls which were put to good use.

The recipe seemed really easy. all I had to do was tip all of the above into a bowl and mix it.

Not the most appealing photo I will admit but in no time at all it was mixed and in a well greased pan.

So far so good. Into the oven and out when cooked. The instructions called for it to be left in the pan for 5 minutes and then turned out. This is when disaster struck.

As I did last week I omitted baking paper. I think I got away with it as the fat content was much higher. I will make again on Sunday and use baking paper and see how I go. BTW it was delicious.

Photo a day - bedside table.

I was going to pretty this up before I took the photo but then decided against it. So what's on my bedside table - a phone, magazines, fabric, mail and a booklet that tells me how to grow flowers from bulbs. The photo shamed me so everything is now in its rightful place.

Merry merry snowman

I managed to work on this quilt 5 out of 7 mornings. A little progress has been made. All ready to sew the first corners on for my square-in-square blocks.

Photo a Day - Your neighbourhood

One of the things that we loved most about Summer Hill was our neighbours. Many was the evening that we ended up in Mike and Paula's back yard drinking well into the night. Neighbourhood to me means my neighbours. Happy to report that we still drink well into the night with our neighbours - only suburb and names have changed. Thanks for a great night Belinda and Mario.

Evidence this morning of the previous nights festivities.

Photo a Day - fruit

I made a cake Thursday night and was going to get up early on Friday to make orange icing. A malfunctioning car alarm put paid to that as it kept me awake for several hours. So my orange remains sitting forlornly on the bench. Perhaps an orange cake this week?

March Photo a Day - Up

I'm going to do Fat Mum Slim's Photo a Day picture challenge. I see it as a way to look at the details in my life to find my daily photo.

Today's theme is up. When I looked up at my wall this morning a moth had taken up residence. It has since been liberated. The markings were beautiful but difficult to capture.
