Day 14

A lazy Saturday was just what I needed.

A trip to Quiltsmith saw the purchase of this yellow fabric for the next Bonnie Hunter mystery quilt. I have never finished one but hope springs eternal.

 

Finally something new on TV tonight. Whilst watching Scott and Bailey this hexagon was stitched.

 

So there you have it. Two weeks gone and time found for me to the things I love Each day achieved. Bring on week three.

Finally just because I can another photo of CLEO..She suffers from the heat so she is in heaven now that Laurie has set her up with her own personal fan.

 

 

Day 13.

Still taking photos. Today it was my beautiful Cleo's turn,

It's hard to believe she is 13. Seems like yesterday when I bought her home.

The photo a day theme had me stumped for a while today. I finally remembered this tree out the back of work. J is for jacaranda. I must try to remember to get a photo when it is in bloom. It is a stunning tree.

 

A little time for some crochet this evening. I still struggle a bit with the join as you go method but it is getting easier.

 

 

My cup is half full.

For anyone who knows me they understand how special the animals in my life are. Cleo has a special place as she was the first cat I owned in more than 20 years. She was a tiny 400 grams when she came into my life almost 13 years ago and sometimes it seems like she has always been here.

Today she was not well and we had to wait three hours to see a vet. A worrying time. We still are niot sure what is wrong with her but hopefully her blood work will give us some answers on Monday. Here she is snuggled up in bed with me this afternoon.

 

So why do I say my glass is half full. Read Donna's story of life and death on a farm and you may understand. The glimpses she shows of her life on the land make for compelling reading for a city girl. My hope for her and the rest of our farmers still suffering from the drought is simple - rain.

 

9/2/14.

Classes started back this week so of course some new fabric was bought. The good news is I also used some stash fabric. The light fabric is one of the new purchases. It was perfect for fussy cutting I am sure you will agree.

So to the stash report:-

Fabric in. 2 1/4 metres.

Fabric out. 1/4 metre.

Net position. 16 1/2 metres in the red.

14/1/14

A busy few days has kept me away from the blog so time for a little catch up.

First up some photo a day prompts.

8/1 was lucky number and mine has always been 6. It was also our number when we were bidding on this house.

 

9/1 the prompt was natural. I chose this home grown dahlia.

 

I then missed a couple of days. Yesterday the 13/1 the prompt was something that makes you smile. Cleo from the moment she came into my life has done just that.

 

The late stash report is not good. In my defence most of the fabric was ordered before Xmas but not received till last week. I love these shot cotton modern solids.

 

The report then:-

I did say I had hit the buy button big time and lots of it came in this week. Only waiting for one more parcel to arrive.

Total fabric bought     95 1/4 metres

Goal for 2011 to use 10% less than I buy. Not looking good. Seems I have reversed things around and have used 10% of what I have bought. Still it''s only March so lots of room to improve.


I snapped this photo of Cleo during the week. She never lies across the steps -- no - she must always have her front feet dangling over the edge. Love our girl.

School Prawns and Cleo

If I ever had to pick a last meal I would probably pick a plate or school prawns and some lovely fresh bread to go with them. While they were plentiful when I was growing up I seldom see them these days. Yesterday we were planning on having fish for dinner but then out of the corner of my eye I spied you guessed it school prawns. I wish I could show you how great they looked but unfortunately eating was more important than photography!

Cleo has a thing for all things seafood. She's playing nice here when she thinks she may get some more.

Not so happy when she realises they're done.

Don't feel sorry for her. We lost count how many she ate but it was more than 20.

Design Wall Monday

Not a lot happening on the sewing front this week. I did finish one block from the Xmas quilt. Takes me to 7 of 36. Hopefully will not take me another 29 weeks to get it done.

Here's a photo of Cleo after she had finished her crab last night. She could barely move but was one contented cat.

Ally does not usually sat still long enough for a photo but I managed to snap this one earlier today.

Exercise is still happening. The last couple of weeks it has been out of the gym. This morning I hit the treadmill for 35 minutes and managed 3.11 kms.

Using the stash and Cleo

Stash report for this week stays exactly the same. Work and partying were both extreme so nothing done.

Fabric used to date 38 1/2 metres.


I have big plans for the last week of the year however and really hope to get to 50 metres. It involves using most of this bundle-

Even Cleo is tired and couldn't be bothered getting out of her carrier last night.

She will however move quickly when she works out there is crab for dinner tonight!

Design Wall Monday

Not a whole lot going on here this week seeing as I have the dreaded summer cold. My stitching theme for the week would have to be English paper piecing. I started sewing together the block from last week, a star for a baby quilt and lots of 3/4 hexagons for the background of one of the quilts I'm doing in class this year.



Today Cleo had to go to the vet for teeth extraction. The poor thing lost six. Bad teeth is hereditary - the same thing happened to her brother six months go. Because she couldn't eat we played with the camera for a while last night. I do think she is gorgeous.



Home from the vets tonight and I knew she was OK when she smelled the prawns we had bought her as a treat and she devoured 4 in as many minutes.

Using the stash

This week involved a lot of cutting for a class I'm doing this week at my local store Quiltsmith with Sue Ross.

The preparation involves cutting 100 different 2 1/2 " by 4 1/2" rectangles. I have about 70 cut so should get them done by Wednesday.

Cleo loves activity so she had to get in on the action this week.

The Stash and Cleo

Went to a quilt class yesterday and did not use one scrap of fabric. Instead I chose to start hand quilting Aunt Bec. It's the first time I have used perle thread and big stitch quilting. Tried several different techniques but in the end found the traditional way was right for me. I'm told my stitches are still a bit small but I'm happy with their size. A photo when a little more is done.

Not using fabric seems to however bring out the worst in me. Look at what came home with me!



Finally a photo of Laurie and Cleo. Cleo is not a cuddly kind of girl. However every morning when Laurie comes to pick her up she lays quietly in his arms and would do so for hours if he let her.

Cleo

I love animals but didn't have one in my life for over 20 years. Just over 6 years ago a pet shop opened in Summerhill and I fell in love with a Blue Russian kitten. unfortunately he was a boy. I debated getting him for several days and when I finally made up my mind I could live with a boy cat I went to buy him and he was literally just being sold.

The pet shop owner told me he had a tiny kitten I could see the next day who was a girl. I was back at 10.oo am the next day and instantly fell in love. Cleo aka Cleo cat or the ewok was love at first sight. Although I now have another cat and a dog whom I both love dearly this not so little girl is still my favourite. She has never given me anything but joy.
