Design Wall Monday

Not a whole lot going on here this week seeing as I have the dreaded summer cold. My stitching theme for the week would have to be English paper piecing. I started sewing together the block from last week, a star for a baby quilt and lots of 3/4 hexagons for the background of one of the quilts I'm doing in class this year.

Today Cleo had to go to the vet for teeth extraction. The poor thing lost six. Bad teeth is hereditary - the same thing happened to her brother six months go. Because she couldn't eat we played with the camera for a while last night. I do think she is gorgeous.

Home from the vets tonight and I knew she was OK when she smelled the prawns we had bought her as a treat and she devoured 4 in as many minutes.

Using the stash

I think the worst thing in the world is a cold right in the middle of summer. I came down with one on Thursday night and have just kept getting worse. The last two days I have had a temperature and I am about to loose my voice. Do I feel sorry for myself right now - you bet I do!

To the totals then:-

Week 8

Fabric used 3/4 metres
Fabric used to date 8 3/4 metres

Goal for 2010 Use 100 metres

Design Wall Monday

It's been a grey and gloomy week here in Sydney but I'm not allowed to complain as the water is falling in our catchment area.

Light was not good for taking pictures so my apologies in advance.

I'm still working on my tessellations blocks. Here is number 9 all prepped for sewing whenever I have a minute. I'm still not sure if I'm making 16 or 25. Every time I see a new fabric combination I think yes I can do some more. The original quilt BTW had nine.

The second photo shows the start of another tessellation design using the same shapes. This time it's not blocks, you keeping adding rows. Will finish up the right size for a cute baby quilt.

Using the stash

Here it is Sunday again.

I finally have a picture of my finished batik quilt. The fabrics did soften considerably on washing - but I'm still not a fan.

To the totals then:-

Week 7

Fabric used 1 3/4 metres
Fabric used to date 8 metres

Goal for 2010 Use 100 metres

Design Wall Monday

Monday and another project started. I really must stop. Well maybe not as it's always such fun to start something new.

This little tidbit is from a class I will be doing all year. It marks a return to my favourite reproductions and I'm excited to be back in that part of the stash again.

When I next show this in December hopefully it will be a lot bigger.

Using the stash and a wedding

Another week with very little sewing done. Most of my cutting gets done on a weekend, but this weekend we were in Ballarat for a family wedding.

February is normally a hot month. In fact this time last year was black Saturday when 173 Australians lost their lives.

The invitation when it arrived invited us to a wedding and a picnic. We were invited to dress in our picnic finery and assured that thongs were OK.

I didn't wear thongs as it was a cold and windy day but you have to love a bride who kicks back and enjoys her wedding! The thongs came out when the dancing on the lawn started.

One of the most relaxed and lovely weddings I have ever been to.

To the totals then:-

Week 6

Fabric used nil
Fabric used to date 6 1/4 metres

Goal for 2010 Use 100 metres

Design Wall Monday

Spent the first day of holidays at work and will be back again tomorrow and then off for the last three working days of the week.

Still not much happening but I am playing with colour. I have a huge stash of brights and don't feel confident in putting them together. So here's the very beginning of an exercise in colour for me this year.
